A plea for a return to normal biorhythms, MDIM015 explores the post online come down and saturated mental state of cloud based socializing.  Using improvised vocals as incantations, minimal beat structures, and DX7 musings DOZE DOSING explores the sleepwalking like state of being plugged in beyond one's comfort level.

To cope with the countless hours spent delivering instruction, providing mental health support, and analyzing data while teaching online during the COVID pandemic, Jeffrey Wentworth Stevens committed to recording songs everyday immediately after logging out. Each song was captured in one or two takes and the vocals were improvised.

"I needed to sing a little, I felt abnormally symmetrical, I felt I needed to repeat phrases over and over to get through it."

"03.11.20" seeks to explore the COVID-19 crisis through America's obsession with sports. The escalation of "social distancing" and "self quarantine" exploded exponentially across the US after the flash point of NBA postponements on the night of 3.11.20. "We chose that moment to explore the stages through which the media and individuals have processed the trauma: first confusion, then anger, fear, paranoia, isolation, and desperation. We have created an alternate timeline where the game is not postponed but rather continues in sync with our own pandemic struggles; a game that can only be heard and seen from a safe distance."

Been pondering today's inauguration for a long time (as we all have).

I went looking for solace in the Hymns, Anthems, and Songs of America.

After sampling them, deconstructing them, listening to refrains repetitively, stretching them to the brink, and collaging them back together I found some silent principles in the tiniest pieces of America's balladry.

I wrote this piece as an American portrait and to remind myself to use my little voice in this democracy. 

Thought I'd share this piece to provide space to reflect within and to provide a different option for your ears on this inauguration day.

HANNA RANCH doc RELEASE

Just a quick update about the documentary I scored, HANNA RANCH.

It opened last weekend in NYC and LA in theaters.  

It has gotten great reviews in the LA times, Villiage Voice, Huffington Post, and was a "Critics Pick" in the New York Times.
