This week a year ago, an event in Gila Bend and reflections upon students in my classroom moved me to write.

"REQUIESCANT" 

...dedicated to Hector Clark and Eduardo Rojas Jr. (died May 12, 2011 Gila Bend, AZ),to my “illegal” students who have taught me so much, and to all who have suffered amid the lines that humans draw in the Sonoran dirt.

.....

New sounds abound.  

Rewiring keyboards and pedals, doing field recordings, and developing new looping techniques. 

 Summer has begun.

First family roadtrip/vision quest.

I co-wrote a track as george&caplin, "Windowpane Rain," that appears in the 

Norwegian National Ballet's performance of The Ice Palace 

(Is-slottet) by author Tarjei Vesaas.

mastering today

On the road to mastering the album today with musical friend Colin Bricker at Mighty Fine Productions. Always a little anxiety ridden when the final tone of the album is being decided, feels like venturing out into the nomad lands.  But very thankful for Colin and Jason's fine tuned ear sets.

A track I did with Mr. Joe Sampson as Wentworth Kersey will be included in the Ballet Nouveau's perfomance of "Love in the Digital Age."  One of my favorites, "Breakdown."  Catch a performance.

New {live} Morriconez manifestation begins with

My oval sunrise is one today.  Friday the 13th, just like his dad.  
(Wish I had a big enough house to invite everyone to the fort building party.)

...after a fall full of recording and more recording with Jason (above with Sandoval), Joe, and Corey, I can now proudly say the ole' mixing notebook has risen again meaning a new album is on the verge.  

Look for a new full length MORRICONEZ, a new LIVE show to support the album, a dance CHOREOGRAPHED to some of our tracks in the Norway National Ballet in Oslo, and a SOUNDTRACK to accompany the documentary Hanna Ranch all in 2012.  Stayed tuned..

Mixed feelings today.  The album I released this year, "the Poquito Pioneer", about one man's journey through the desert to Salvation Mountain was recognized today on You Crazy Dreamers' best of the year list.  But today I also found out that Leonard Knight (the creator of Salvation Mountain) is not living in the desert at his beloved mountain anymore and is living in assisted care.  Also even more tragic, his long time helper/caretaker at Salvation Mountain, Kevin, has passed away.  Amy and I were fortunate enough to meet both these folks and hang out, please keep them in your heart this holiday season.

Music to appear in the Norwegian National Ballet

The Norwegian National Ballet has requested a song I wrote with Jason Iselin (as part of george&caplin) to accompany a dance for the production of “the Ice Palace” in Oslo! (based on Tarjei Vesaas’ novel “Isslottet”) We are overwhelmed. This is truly beyond anything Jason and I had in mind when we began recording years ago.

Saved this jumping spider from the tides of my sink this morning.  I left him for dead on my window sill but was pleased to find him a half hour later alive, away in a manger.

Inspiration, like an exploding star, is vast, expansive, and always hurling outward; but like all mass the shear gravity causes even the tiniest of particles of matter to re-connect.  I'm thankful for these small moments of gravity that my creative career has afforded me.

One reason I like art...

Last summer I went to Salvation Mountain for the first time with my wife Amy.  Just us and the lonesome mountain. But soon we met Maura, who was also there for the first time. We soon realized we all shared the common bond of being teachers. To our great fortune we were blessed to find Leonard hanging out before a swim in an irrigation ditch and he stayed to give us a tour. I left very inspired.

Maura read a review of the Jjango album on YouCrazyDreamers and from the cover realized she was there that day. She contacted me and shared her excitement for the experience and the album. She too was inspired by the moment and did some artwork. (see Maura's work here) (Above is a photo from Maura I accidently snuck into.)
